The “Baie des Anges” - Nice, France

Do angels have a sex? In any case, they do have a bay and this little paradise is in Nice. Nice stretches the “Baie des Anges” from the old harbour to the river Var and this, to the greatest amazement of the tourists. This pearl of the French Riviera, bordered by palm-trees hosts several first class hotels, a casino and a museum named after one of the greatest marshals of the “Empire” period, the one Napoleon called the “son of victory”: André Masséna Duke of Rivoli and Prince of Essling.

Amongst these luxury hotels, the Hotel Négresco, fruit of an architecture dating from the beginning of the 20th century, built in 1912. This hotel is one of the rare privately owned luxury hotels in the world.

The Westminister Concorde Hotel is another jewel of the “Belle Epoque” period, with an exceptional location in the middle of the Promenade. It faces the sea and is close to the pedestrian precinct which is the centre of commerce of Nice.

The more recent “Palais de la Méditerranée”, one of the most famous “art deco” hotels in the world, re-opened in 2004. It has kept its splendid façade which is classified as a historical monument, but has completely been refurbished inside with the most refined standards. This hotel also hosts one of the two casinos in Nice. The worldwide renowned casino Ruhl, is just next door and located in the Méridien Hotel at the real beginning of the Promenade des Anglais (the house number is the number one), just a stone throw away from the Théatre de verdure.

Amongst the other four star hotels: The Plaza, the Atlantic, the Aston Hotel, the West End, the Alba Hotel, the Beau Rivage which is close to the flower market in the old town, the Park Hotel, the Massena, the Splendid, the Riviera Hotel, the Sheraton Elysée Palace and, outside of the town on the road to Villefranche sur Mer direction Monaco and Menton, the Palais Maeterlink, an exceptional site for different reasons, its location, its view and its calm, located on the point of the Cap of Nice on the Basse Corniche. The hotel has a park of three hectares bordering the sea and planted with olive trees, cypresses and lavender.
